Obituary

Alvin Massey, 72, of Strong, Arkansas, passed away on May 28, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his devoted family. A man of quiet strength, deep affection, and unwavering dedication, Alvin lived a life marked by love, selflessness, and hard work. He gave of himself freely and often, always putting the needs of others before his own.

Born on June 29, 1952, to the late John Cecil and Eunice Wells Massey, Alvin was raised in a home where strong values and simple joys shaped his soul. He followed in his father's footsteps to become a skilled and respected carpenter, finding purpose in the craft and pride in building with his hands. Yet, it was the warmth of his mother's Sunday dinners — filled with family, laughter, and love — that remained one of his most cherished memories.

It was in Strong that Alvin met the love of his life, Helen through her brother G.W. Their bond blossomed into a marriage full of devotion and shared dreams when they wed on June 2, 1973. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two children: Jennifer Rogers of Strong in 1977, and Corey Massey of Strong in 1984. Alvin found immense joy in watching his family grow and especially treasured his role as "Paw" to his beloved grandchildren: Ayden Rogers, Landon Massey, and Lowrey Massey.

Alvin was not only known as "Paw" to his grandchildren, but to all those who visited Massey Hill — a place filled with laughter, stories, and memories made under his steady and loving presence.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Alvin found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved riding four-wheel drives to Laigle Lake and spending nights at the camp, surrounded by the peace of nature and the warmth of good company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his greatest passion was his garden. Tending to his plants, working the soil, and sharing the fruits of his labor brought him a unique kind of joy — it was his favorite pastime and a reflection of his patient, nurturing spirit.

Alvin's legacy is carried on by those who loved him dearly: his wife of over 50 years, Helen Massey; his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Corey and daughter-in-law Bonnie; his grandchildren; his sister Martha Jane of Strong; his brother PeeWee (Gina) Massey of Strong; sister-in-law Diann Massey; brother-in-law Billy (Robin) Womack; sister-in-law Carlynn (Bill) Marcus; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Shirley Crawford (Don), J.C. "Goober" Massey, Wayne Massey (Lissie), Tommy Massey (Pat), and Dianne Fairris (James); his in-laws, Glenn and Marie Womack; his brothers-in-law G.W. Womack (Kathy), Gene Womack and Edward Wallace; and several cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alvin's presence was a steady comfort, his laughter a welcome light, and his love a gift to all who knew him. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know and love him.
