IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billy G.
Smith
November 30, 1936 – December 27, 2022
Billy G. Smith, 86, left his earthly home on Tuesday, December 27th and went to meet his Lord and Savior whom he served faithfully. He was saved and baptized at an early age and answered God's call to preach the Gospel. He preached the Word faithfully for 62 years and he was the pastor of Murmil Heights Baptist Church for the past 41 years. He also pastored Hopewell Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He loved people, touched many lives and led hundreds of people to accept Christ as their Savior. He was a jack of all trades and was known for helping people with their problems. He also spent countless hours building church buildings. His entire life was spent in service to others and he will be greatly missed.
He was born on November 30, 1936 to Trozy Bill and Alberta Smith. He was married to Joann (Thurmon) Smith for 63 years and they served God together. She was an expert pianist and he was an accomplished guitarist and they blessed people with their music during their entire ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a great grandson, Toby. He is survived by 3 sons - Billy Joe, Jim (Angela), and Terry (Pam); 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a sister Barbara Strahan (Richard), a brother Ricky Smith (Elaine), numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and people who he helped in his lifetime of service to others.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 pm at Murmil Baptist Church. A memorial service will be Friday at 2 pm at Murmil Baptist Church under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapel. Bro. Smith's sons will conduct the services. Interment will be at Beech Grove cemetery. Bro. Smith's grandsons will serve as pallbearers - Ben, Jonathan, Jared, Kalan, Kendall, Zach, Seth, Dalton, and Micah. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make donations to the Murmil Baptist Church building fund.
