IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bob
Summerville
December 1, 1941 – August 3, 2025
Bob H. Summerville, age 83, fondly known as "Papaw" by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, passed away August 3, 2025 at the Home he dearly loved. Bob was born December 1, 1941 in El Dorado, AR to the late Dewell Dude and Vergie Sinclair Summerville.
Bob's hands told the story of a life well-lived, calloused from hard work, yet gentle enough to cradle a newborn grandchild or coax a rose into bloom. He learned the trade of welding alongside his father in their family shop, forging not just metal, but memories. He graduated from El Dorado High School, class of 1959, and was a proud member of their championship football team. Later, he became an apprentice plumber with Mason Plumbing, rising to the rank of master plumber. He worked proudly for himself and also contributed his talents to Southern Cryogenics in Smackover and Arkansas Chemical, where he eventually retired.
But Bob was far more than his work. He was a man of quiet passion, a grower of flowers, a painter of beauty, a lover of music, and a caretaker of all things green and growing. He found joy in the woods, peace in his garden, and inspiration in every brushstroke. His life was a canvas, and he filled it with color.
His greatest masterpiece, though, was his family. Bob adored his wife and loved each one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with a heart so big it could hardly be contained. His eyes would light up just talking about them, and he was often heard saying with deep affection, "I love those babies."
Bob's love was steady, strong, and enduring, the kind that stays with you long after the last goodbye. He will be missed more than words can say by all who knew and loved him. But his legacy lives on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the flowers in his garden, and the hearts he touched along the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved grandson Calen Hunter Summerville; beloved great-granddaughter Ryatt Scout Merritt; special nephew David Summerville Sr; brother Duane Summerville; sister Lou Summerville; as well as former spouses Janice Summerville and Patricia Summerville.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his beloved wife of five and a half years Doretta Summerville; two sons Patrick Wade Summerville (Cindy), Robert "Rob" Hendrix Summerville (Patricia); eight grandchildren Kimberly Bussell, Brandon Bussell, Timothy Thurlkill (Brittany), Casey Howe (Ashley), Colby Howe (Trinity), Kastle Merritt (Heath), Benjamin Summerville, Bradley Summerville (Harleigh), and Tanner Summerville; ten great grandchildren McKenna, Grayden, Jaylen, Spencer, Cora, Landrey, Mercy May, Remi, Reese, and Deacon Ridge; four step children Lorie Barham (Robert), Charles Ray Sellers (Michelle), Cindy Williams (Clay), and Traie Shelhart; one sister LaJuana Summerville Ray; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 5:00 PM Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Perry's Funeral Chapel in El Dorado, AR, Rev. Don Parks officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until time of service.
