Charlie Emmett Phillips, 72, died Thursday March 6, 2008 at the Medical Center of South
Arkansas. He was born March 12 l935 in Three Creeks, Arkansas. He is the son of Jeffie
Thomas Phillips and Martha Jane Slater Phillips.
Charlie was employed with the Colonial Bakery Company for 29 and half years and he retired
from Milam Construction Company.
He was a volunteer for the Boys Scouts of America for thirty-five years. During that time he
served as "Scout Master" and served on the troop committee. He served as a unit commissioner
and camp DeSoto trading post manager for six years. He was on the Boys Scout staff for
approximately twenty years. He received Vigil Status in l977 with the "Order of the Arrow" and
was awarded the "Scout Training" award in l978, and the scout master key. He also received the
"Silver Beaver Award". He was awarded the "Service Beyond the Call of Duty" award in l979,
and was awarded the" District" award of Merit in l977. He loved the boy scout camp and this
was also the location where he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary.
Two brothers preceded him in death: Paul Phillips and Ligie Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Estelle Pope Phillips of El Dorado, his children: Tom and Beth
Phillips of Memphis, Tennesse, and Charlie Jr. and Cathy Phillips of Strong, Arkansas, Gail and
Mike Latimer of Smackover, Annie Dale and Gary Brashier of El Dorado, nine grandchildren:
Charlie "Trey" Phillips, Robert Phillips, Natalie Phillips, Nicholas Phillips Nathaniel Phillips,
Keisha Sims, Carter Latimer, Sandra McNeely, and Bridget Fitch, five great grandchildren, Brice
McNeely, Gaige Lagrande, Kilee Fitch, Joshua Murray and Miranda Murray, one brother Johnny
and Peggy Phillips of Mississippi.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Sunday March 9, 2008 at Perry's Funeral Chapels in El Dorado
with Rev. Leon Dixon and Chaplain Sterling Claypoole officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm til 8:00 pm Saturday March 8, 2008 at the funeral
home.
