Rev. Donald Gerald Cameron, age 83, of Haynesville, Louisiana, left this Earth to be gathered in the arms of his Savior on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandson, Keldon Allen Cameron and a brother-in-law, Roy Lindell.
Don was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on September 25, 1938 to the late Alvis Henry and Annie Pearl McDonald Cameron. He grew up in Wesson, Arkansas until he was five years old then his family moved to Smackover. Don was very athletic and loved football and baseball. He graduated from Smackover High School in 1956. After he graduated. Don attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque before serving in the Army for two years.
On December 5, 1970, Don married Mary Lindell and the family moved to Albuquerque where he worked before returning to Arkansas.
In 1974, he surrendered to the call of the Lord on his life and in March 1975, he was ordained as a Baptist Minister. In the fall of that year, he moved his family to San Dimas, California, where he attended Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College, earning a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1979.
Over the years, Rev. Cameron pastored several churches in California and Arkansas, as well as serving as interim pastor in churches, and helped with Bible Camp in Oklahoma. He had a heart for lost souls, and would stop and talk to people he met along the road to introduce them to his Savior whom he loved. Many times he would try to help people who needed assistance with food and shelter. He had a jail ministry and would follow with visits to prison if inmates were transferred there.
Don also was an independent oil producer who loved to travel and had a fondness for classic cars.
He loved his family, especially his sons and grandsons and leaves a legacy of Christian love and caring to all those he left behind.
Left to cherish his memories, his wife of nearly 51 years, Mary Lindell Cameron; two sons, Donnie Cameron (Ginie) of Smackover and Ronnie Cameron of El Dorado; two grandsons, Aaron Cameron (Marylu) and Jeremy Ward (Kim); one granddaughter, Lynsey McGaugh (Brandon); one granddaughter-in-law, Lacie Cameron; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Alan Cameron (Sharon) of Minden, Louisiana; one sister, Saralyn Ontis (Earl) of Smackover; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Lindell (Linda) of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and Denny Lindell (Carlonna) of Jordan, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Newmaster (Roger) of Oakdale, Minnesota and Diane Erickson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews whom will greatly miss their Uncle Don as well as two special children whom he and his wife fostered, Devin and Jacob.
Visitation will be held 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Perry's Funeral Chapels. Funeral Services will held 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Perry's Funeral Chapels with Bro. J.D. Weido officiating. Interment will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
