Obituary

Donald McKnight 88, of El Dorado died Sunday December 7, 2014 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. He was born in El Dorado on December 3, 1926 to Charles Armor McKnight and Idella Rose Grissom who preceded him along with his wife; Mary Frances McKnight, two brothers; Veldon McKnight and O.D. "Sambo" McKnight , a sister; Joyce Shaddock, an infant daughter Patricia McKnight and most recently a son Chris McKnight.

Donald was a pipefitter by trade and retired from Lion Oil and also served in the United States Navy as a Apprentice Seaman during the second world war and in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was quite an athlete in his highschool years. He played fast pitch softball and was a halfback on the 1946 EHS football team. It was said that he scored the first high school football touchdown in War Memorial Stadium He was an accomplished little league baseball player and coach as well.

Survivors include a son Rodney McKnight and Daughter-in-law Amy, daughter-in-law; Frances McKnight, widow of son; Chris McKnight, a sister; Margaret McManemin (Bill) granddaughters; Lori McKnight Ragan (Whit), Christi McElroy, Aria McKnight and Mya McKnight.

Visitation will be from 9am-10:30am Friday December 12, 2014 at Perry's Funeral Chapels with funeral services including military honors starting at 11am with Rev. Al Womack officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to The American Cancer Society.
