Ray Smith Sr.
March 27, 1942 – April 2, 2022
Rev. Donald "Don" Ray Smith, 80, of Huttig passed away on April 2, 2022 at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe, LA. He was born on March 27, 1942 in Felsenthal to the late William Lenard Smith and Ruby Erma White Smith. Don served as a missionary to Belize for 20 plus years in addition to serving as minister at Union Methodist Protestant Church. He was an avid musician and singer; he was also a member of the Unionaires and the The Carpenter Tools. Don liked to attend Arkansas Razorback and Strong Bulldogs games, but his passion was his family and church activities. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring old things. Don worked as a pipefitter before retiring and was a member of the Local Union 706 Pipefitters. He was the current President of the Louisiana Annual Conference, treasurer of Lapile Water Association, served on several Annual Church Boards, was an Assistant Scoutmaster, and a past President of the Strong Jaycees.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, David Wayne Smith and Paul Lawrence Smith; brothers, Billy Smith and Keith Smith; sisters, Gelynn Duke, Carolyn Clark, and Dianne Major.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Pat Smith; sons, Donald Ray Smith Jr., Justice Breggs-Smith, and Jeremiah Breggs-Smith; sister, Imogene Cope (Travis); grandchildren, David Ryan Smith, Amelia Phillips, John Paul Smith, Caleb Smith, Kacie Smith, Merridith Payne, and Sara Brant; great-grandchildren, John Lane Smith, Justice Breggs-Smith, Jeremiah Breggs-Smith, Tyler Phillips, Jordyn Smith, Tripp Phillips, Caleb Matthew Smith, and Jaxon Smith Dollar; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and church family.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Union Methodist Protestant Church. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Union Methodist Protestant Church officiated by Rev. Terry Smith and Rev Robert Burns followed by Interment at Sweet Home Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
