Obituary

Edna Louise Eubanks Cates, 85, of El Dorado, Arkansas passed away May 4, 2021 at her home.  She was born June 30, 1935 in Village, Arkansas to the late George Monroe Eubanks and Martha Moree Foster Eubanks.

Edna graduated from El Dorado High School in 1953 and attended business school.  She married Bonnie Ray (BR) Cates on October 3, 1953.  Edna was a homemaker who went to work in 1970 at First National Bank of El Dorado.

At First National Bank, she started as a runner, a teller, and retired from the accounting department in 1998.  Edna was active in the Union County Genealogical Society and served as Treasurer.  She had worked on the family genealogy for over fifty years.  Edna and BR spent a portion of their retirement traveling the United States in their motorhome, with and without grandchildren.  They managed to travel to all fifty states.  She collected Blue Willow china and would bring home some on every trip.  Her favorite pastime was going to garage sales looking for bargains.

Edna was an active member of Union Baptist Church where she worked on the kitchen committee and volunteered where she could help.  For the last several years, she volunteered at Liberty Baptist Association thrift store.

Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie Ray Cates; her parents; son, Leonard Monroe Cates, and brother, Bobby Gene Eubanks.

Edna is survived by her children, Toni Barnett (Jim) of El Dorado, Bill Cates (Carolyn) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Cindy Woolsey of El Dorado; grandchildren, Michael Sayers (Jessica) of Mellette, SD, Stephanie Sayers (Krista) of El Dorado, Mary Ann Woolsey Thompson, James Thomas Woolsey (Kaci), Robert Anthony Woolsey of El Dorado, Ben Cooksey Cates (Megan) of Louisville, CO, Madeline Cates, Lauren Cates of Pensacola, Florida, Jac Cates (USAF), Hurlburt Field, Florida, and Tyler Cates (Rosemarie) (USN) of Oak Harbor, Washington;  great-grandchildren, Abigail Thompson, Kali Bronson, Lexi Bronson, Echo Shields, Brantley Woolsey of El Dorado, Liam, Rydian and Eowyn Cates of Oak Harbor, WA.

Services will be held at Union Baptist Church on May 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Matt Wilson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church at 144 Crain City Road, El Dorado, Arkansas, 71730; Liberty Baptist Association, 912 Mt. Holly Road, El Dorado, Arkansas, 71730 or the charity of your choice.
