Effa M "Sissy" Cook, age 91 of Hot Springs, moved from El Dorado in January 2007 to make her home in Country Club Village in Hot Springs. She went home to be with the Lord Sunday October 16, at Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. She was born April 11, 1920 in Lillie, Louisiana to the late John Crawford Smith and Vida Thomas Smith.
Sissy, was a housewife who taught piano lessons in her home. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church for over 60 years and served as the pianist/organist for Westside Baptist Church for over 25 years. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed making handmade quilts and her own soap which she liked to share. She loved working in her garden where she grew the most beautiful roses and vegetables.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Cook who passed away August of 1987, three brothers, Fred, Ernest and Glen Smith.
She is survived by her son; Harold Cook of Junction City, a daughter; Janie Ganaway ( Andy) of Hot Springs, one grandson, Stephen Ganaway and wife Donna of Little Rock, granddaughter Rebecca Ganaway of London England. One great-grandson, Harrison Ganaway of Little Rock. One brother, Ralph Smith and wife Clarice of Nederland, Texas. In addition she is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Saturday October 22, 2011 at Westside Baptist Church with Revs. Gerald Perry and Sam Whitlow officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12noon until services. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Smith, Charlie Price, Ed Midyett, Danny Smith, Pat Rogers, and Johnny Hay.
Memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church. A special thanks to the staff of Fountain Lake Rehab, the staff of Arkansas Hospice and special friend Sylvia Brooks who held Sissy's hand.
