Fred H. Smith Sr. Was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on November 24, 1942. He was the son of Fred G. and Jesse Smith of Norphlet .
He graduated from Norphlet High School where he played basketball and football. After school he began working at the service station his father operated, Norphlet Auto Supply. Also, he began to drive a school bus and became a member of the Norphlet Volunteer Fire Department were he later became chief until he retired after 26 of service. He retired from driving the school bus after 27 years. Also he worked out at the Union County jail as a jailer until retiring from there and then he drove his truck all across the US escorting oversized loads.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife of 24 years, Judy Smith; two sisters, Dr. Patsy Ruth Smith Gasperson of Marshall, TX and Elizabeth Gordon of Taylor, AR .
He is survived by two sons, Fred H. Smith Jr. of Norphlet and fiancee Michelle and James David Smith and his fiancee Danielle of Syracuse, NY.; one step-son, Michael Odom of Norphlet. Also left behind are grandchildren Hunter, Ethan and Meredith Smith all of NY, Andrew and Alyssa Odom of Norphlet, Steven Mclemore of Norphlet and a nephew Robert Gordon of Malvern. He also leaves behind a very loyal canine companion Panda.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday, May 2, 2016 and services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, May 3, 2016 both at Perry's Funeral Chapels in El Dorado. Interment services will follow on Tuesday at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels
