Obituary

George Louis Huhner III (1959-2026), 67 years, of El Dorado, Arkansas passed peacefully with family by his side following a short hospital stay with kidney complications on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, January 9, 1959 to George Louis Huhner, Jr. and Dolly Rita Zimmerman Huhner. George graduated from Archbishop Rummel Catholic High School, Metairie, before attending Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and his first employment with the gas department of New Orleans Public Service Inc. George’s first date with the love of his life, Margaret, was at the New Orleans World Fair of 1984. This date solidified the life-long love and marriage vows of May 17, 1986, and their move and new home together in El Dorado. George would always tell people in his classic Cajun accent, Margaret moved to New Orleans to find her a “Louisiana Sweet Swamp Thang”.

George was an expert automotive technician of local notoriety for over 40 years. George was well known for his expertise of all things mechanical particularly automotive where friends and customers followed his job advancements from shops and dealerships about town. He worked at Western Auto, Laney’s Collision Center, Teeter Honda, Expert Tire Firestone Complete Auto, and Trotter Nissan before retiring 2 years ago. While George had a special knack for troubleshooting and repair, his sure and patient diagnosis of mechanical issues was equally matched with his gentle demeanor, reliable service and trusted care of vehicle and customer. His family tells a story of George at the age of 9, taking apart a neighbor’s Ship Clock ever so carefully, cog by cog, that stopped abruptly at owner’s death and restarted upon his rebuild as though gifted hands and mind for all things mechanical.

George loved all things nature, an avid hunter and fisherman, who spent countless hours at their home away from home on Lake Claiborne in north Louisiana. He played generous host to grand summer holidays and always fun and relaxing weekends with family, friends and his entourage of water dogs. George enjoyed watching sports particularly the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks as well as Friday night boxing with Pops, Dad Doyle, his best friend. Family and friends will remember George as the sweetest natured, giving and kind husband, son, brother, and uncle with infinite patience, soft heart and generosity rarely matched by anyone anywhere. George loved Jesus, was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus.

George was preceded in death by his father-in-law, O. Paul Doyle, and brother-in-law, Joseph D. Doyle and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margaret Doyle Huhner, his parents, George and Dolly Huhner, one sister, Darlene Huhner, mother-in-law, Mary Lou Doyle, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Barbara (Jay) Printz, Paul (Maggie) Doyle, Mary Kathryn (James) Weathers, Thomas (Melanie) Doyle, Mary Elizabeth (Richard) Kennington, Joe’s widow, Jane Doyle, Laura E. Doyle, Colleen (Mike) Means and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces/nephews.

Per George’s wishes, there will be no public memorial services. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Union County Animal Protection Society (UCAPS), 727 E, Main St, El Dorado, AR 71730 or www.ucapsshelter.org/donate.
