Obituary

George Barto Lockey Sr.
A very loving and wonderful man has earned his wings and joined his Heavenly Father in the Promised Land. George Barto Lockey, Sr, born July 16, 1930 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, made his final journey on August 11, 2011 to reunite with his departed loved ones.

Welcoming him at Heaven's Gates are his parents, Jesse Edward and Linnie Mae Lockey; brothers, Jesse Edward Jr, Lynn, and Bill; sisters, Jessie Mae, Virginia, and Gladys; and grandson, "Major" Lundy.

Barto, as he was known to many, was a simple country man, who loved his family and lived off the land. Farming, raising a family, fishing, and hunting were his passions; Union County road crew was his living. A man of great faith, he was a member of Mt Union Baptist Church for many years, active in the Golden Agers and a pillar of the community as he was often sought out for sound advice and creative suggestions. He always had a story to tell, a hog to smoke, or fish to fry!

Cherishing his memory are his devoted wife of 60 years, Willie Jean Thurlkill Lockey; children Jeanine and Dutch Lundy, George, Jr and Jerri Sue Lockey, Ginger and Andy Moore, all of El Dorado, and Georgia and John Upton of Lewisville; granddaughters Shannon Healey, Amy Peace, Sara "Jane" Lundy, Tara Fleming, Ashlee McNiel, Brittany Betts, and Lauren Nelson; grandson Jess Lockey; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Ann Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 PM Friday, August 12, 2011 at Mt Union Baptist Church.

Service will be held 10am Saturday, August 13, at Mt Union Baptist Church with Brother Leroy Jones and Brother Glen Shults officiating. Graveside to follow at Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels in El Dorado.

Pall Bearers are grandsons Jess Lockey, Kurt Healey, James Peace, Mark Fleming, Zac McNiel, Brandon Betts, and Jordan Winter.
