The second of six loving children, Gladys Louise was born August 20, 1919, in Emerson, Arkansas, to the late Maggie Scott Tucker and William Mordecai Tucker. On May 5, 1939, she married the late Joseph "Jody" Deloach Gullett.
During World War II, "Jody" was drafted into the Navy, leaving Gladys with two little girls at home. Her little boy would arrive five years later. Having lived through the depression and being the wife of a Navy sailor and mother during World War II helped her to appreciate life, all the more.
The Gulletts enjoyed many adventures during their marriage. Their journey led them to Indiana, West Texas and Arkansas. They enjoyed making Jennings, Louisiana their home in the early 1960's.
She and "Jody" operated the Urbana Café, where Gladys was known for her desserts, but most especially for her peanut butter pie. She is also adoringly remembered by her family and friends as THE best cook! One of her notebooks has several footnotes to the recipes that say, "My Family's Favorite". She enjoyed avidly searching for new ideas for creating delicious recipes.
Affectionately known by several monikers: Mama, Mom, "G", Aunt G, Mama G, Momese; Mrs. Gullett is most notably remembered for leaving a true legacy of love.
