Gregory "Sugar
Bear" Rawls
June 26, 1951 – April 17, 2022
Gregory Rawls better known as "Sugar Bear", 70, of Strong passed away on April 17, 2022 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born on June 26, 1951 in Bastrop, Louisiana to the late William Frank Rawls and Katie Lou Fife Perry. Sugar Bear was a Jack of All Trades, he was a self-taught welder, and a mechanic by trade. He was employed from 1985-2007 as a mechanic with the Lion Oil Pipeline Division. Sugar Bear enjoyed working on all types of motors, but his favorite was hot rod motors and motorcycles. He was an avid turkey hunter, enjoyed fishing, tending to his garden and animals, cooking and loved spending time at his camp on the river. The Ouachita River was especially significant to Sugar Bear as he was baptized in the river by Bro. Lester Pratt. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Tammye Rawls; children, Jennifer Rawls, Clint Rawls (Alex) and Misti Conley (Josh); grandchildren, Cassie Rawls, Dixon Rawls, Baylon Rawls, JR Stone, and one on the way; sister, Lois Ann Norris (Ronnie); and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Strong. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Strong officiated by Bro. Scotty Guillot. Interment will be held at Pigeon Hill Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
