James R. Hammons, 86, of Strong passed away June 29, 2016 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.
James was born January 12, 1930 to the late Rozelle Hammons and Hazel Frisby Norris. He was a veteran of the Korean War, member of the New London Baptist Church of Strong. He retired from American Oil Company after almost 40 years of service. He was a avid Hunter, hard worker and loved working in his garden.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Jo Annie Phelps Hammons; one brother, Charles "Doc" Hammons.
Those to cherish in his memory are his wife, Barbara Baker Hammons; one brother, Tommy Hammons, two step-sons, Gary Baker (Sue) from Wichita Falls, TX and Scott Baker (Carrilyn) from Dallas, TX; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Hammons and Billie Sawyer; seven nephews and one niece.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 8pm, July 1 at New London Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 10am on July 2 at New London Baptist Church with Bro. Jody Jackson officiating.
Interment will be held at Ebenezer Presbyterian Cemetery under direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
