IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Owens
March 29, 1962 – April 10, 2024
James Benjamin (Ben) Owens, age 62, of El Dorado, AR passed from this life into Heaven on April 10, 2024.
Ben was born March 29, 1962 in El Dorado, Arkansas to John A. Owens & Frances M. Thurlkill Owens.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Clarence A. Owens & Etta Clyde Cates Owens, and Marlin B. Thurlkill & Addie Elno Hux Thurlkill; parents John & Frances Owens; and his brother-in-law Richard L. Jinks.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister Johnette Owens Jinks; nephew Josh R. Bobbitt; niece Jessice M. Perry & her husband Billy M. Perry; great nephews Adrian Perry, Benjamin Perry, Declan Bobbitt and Richard Perry; great Nieces Chloe Perry & Daisy Perry; uncles Henry Thurlkill & his wife Cindy and Clarence W. Owens all of El Dorado, AR; aunt Heather Owens Alexander & her husband Carter of Floresville, TX; as well as multitude of cousins & friends. Those who will miss him the most are "his boys" Goose & Maverick, his pits, they were more than dogs they were "his children".
Ben graduated from Junction City High School in 1980 and Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, AR with a degree in Agricultural Business in 1984.
Ben worked 38 years for Amercable/Nexans until his health failed him. He made many lasting friendships while at Amercable that led to hunting trips to Colorado, golf games & fishing trips. Who would have thought a "good old country boy" would love to play golf!! His love for hunting & fishing were evident as soon as you started talking with him or went into his log home. He was very proud of building his own home with the help of family & friends.
He was also proud of his niece & nephew but his great nieces and nephews were a totally different story; from talking sports and hunting with Adrian, Benjamin, Declan & Richard to taking Chloe to play golf and cooking bacon for Daisy.
Ben was saved & baptized at an early age. Growing up he was a member of Mt. Union Baptist Church & later in life a member of Elliot Baptist Church. He never went much after he got out on his own but he would say "you don't have to go to a building if you know Jesus". He lived life to the fullest while he was able but he knew where he was going when he died - Heaven!
Visitation will be on Sunday 1-3:00 PM at Perry's Funeral Chapel. At 3:00 PM we will leave the funeral home and proceed to Smyrna Cemetery for graveside services.
