Obituary

Jean Carolyn Huitt Emerson, 76, of Junction City celebrated her glorious trip to Heaven surrounded by family and close friends in concert Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado.

Born on November 27, 1937, in Wesson to George Otis and Bynie Elizabeth Douglass Huitt, Jean immediately became a tomboy often tagging along with her brother and his friends. She detested wearing dresses and hair bows and would much rather play ball than play with dolls. She attended school in Wesson until the school was destroyed by a fire, and then she finished her education in Junction City. She fell in love with and later married G.C. Emerson, a cute basketball player whom she met at the Dual State Tournament. One of the things they had in common is that they each held the basketball in their team photos because both of them were the shortest players on their teams.

Jean loved the Lord, her family, music, writing songs, reading, the color blue, laughter, staying up late at night, sleeping late, and Diet Coke--not necessarily in that order. She spent most of her time as a homemaker but also was the librarian for the branch library in Junction City for several years and later worked at Union State Bank in Junction City.

Through the years she spent many hours listening to and encouraging young people without judging them and was an avid prayer warrior. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Jean enjoyed pranks and was the recipient of many of those especially from her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Emerson, and her parents.

Left behind to cherish her memory and absorb her lengthy prayer list are her children Beth Emerson Endel (Danny) of Wesson; Lisa Emerson Ray (Randy) of Simsboro, LA; David Emerson (Stacia) of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren Elise Endel of Ruston, LA; Elliott Endel (Mary Katherine) of El Dorado; Cameron Ray of Ruston, LA; Adam Emerson of Arlington, TX; Michaela Emerson of Riverside, CA; her great-grandson Philip Endel of El Dorado; her brother Kenny Huitt (Relda) of Wesson; her brother-in-law Tommy Emerson (Kathy) of Taylor, AR; her niece Cindy Emerson (Richard) of Magnolia, AR; her niece Aneita Emerson of Pembroke, NC; cousins; a great-niece and her family; and an aunt.

A time of gathering and remembrance was held Thursday evening from 6 - 8 pm at Perry's Funeral Chapel in El Dorado.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 2 pm Friday (today) at Wesson Baptist Church with officiants David Emerson (son) and Randy Ray (son-in-law) under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels. Interment will follow at Scotland Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Adam Emerson (grandson), Elliott Endel (grandson), Danny Endel (son-in-law), Glen Wheelus (family friend), Joe Brown (family friend), and Luis Sanchez (Elise's fiance'). Honorary pallbearers are family friends Kenneth Jackson and Wayne Barrett.
