Jerry Sonya Cogburn, age 84, passed from this life July 20, 2024. Jerry was born January 24, 1941 in El Dorado, AR to the late Dood and Rosa Nichols.

Jerry Cogburn lived a life rich in love, faith, family, and music. She was a woman who treasured the simple, meaningful things—time with her loved ones, a good home-cooked meal, a favorite hymn, and a hand of Rook shared with friends.

Jerry had a deep love for gospel music. Mahalia Jackson's voice could move her to tears, and in her own way, Jerry carried that same spirit of worship throughout her life. She sang with her family band, where all the kids played and sang together, creating memories wrapped in music and togetherness. Even in her later years, she still quoted the 23rd Psalm by heart and could recall every verse of the old hymns, holding them close as a source of comfort and joy.

She was an excellent cook who took pride in feeding her family—making sure no one ever left her table hungry. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures, and she loved capturing life's moments as an avid picture taker, always ready with a camera to preserve memories.

Jerry also enjoyed the quiet comforts of home. She could often be found watching Gunsmoke—sometimes for hours—never tiring of the familiar characters and stories. She found laughter and friendship around the card table, playing Rook with friends and family, cherishing the time spent together.

Her legacy is one of faith, love, and togetherness. Jerry Cogburn leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, a lifetime of cherished memories, and a well-lived life that touched all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of sixty-three years Sam Cogburn; two sisters Doris Pardini, and Margie Endel; and two brothers James Nichols and H.T. Nichols.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her two sons Mark Cogburn (Kathi) and Paul Cogburn; four grandchildren Joshua Cogburn (Taylor), Zachary Cogburn (Mariah), Hannah Cogburn, and Alex Cogburn; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services in her honor will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Perry's Funeral Chapel in El Dorado, AR, Pastor Ken Nelson officiating, interment following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
