Joanie Lee Orren (née Abbitt) was a mother, grandmother, and force of nature who looked after her family and her community with equal fire.
Born April 6, 1953, Joanie lived with her whole heart. She and Danny Orren Sr. built 42 years of marriage on resilience, laughter, and a love that never wavered.
If you met Joanie once, you remembered her forever. She had a quick wit, a stubborn independent streak, and a no-nonsense way of letting you know exactly where you stood. Underneath that spark was her real mission: pushing her children to grow, to reach higher, and to become better than they thought possible. Her family was her pride, and she protected them fiercely.
Home was where Joanie worked her real magic. She turned four walls into a place that felt warm, loud, and alive. She also had the soul of a treasure hunter. A yard sale sign could stop her car cold. Flea markets, Salvation Army, Goodwill — those were her stomping grounds, and she had a gift for seeing beauty and value others walked past.
That same generous eye shaped how she served Smackover. She was a loud, proud supporter of the Smackover Buckaroo band, bringing the same energy to the bleachers that she brought to everything else. For years she rolled up her sleeves with Caring Hearts, gathering donations and making sure neighbors in need were fed, clothed, and seen. Nobody in her corner of the world went uncared for on her watch.
Joanie now rests with the people she missed most: her husband Danny Orren Sr., her daughter Katie Orren, and her parents Ruby Nash and William Abbitt.
She leaves her strength and love to her children, Kimberly Cook, Jody Miller, and Danny Orren Jr. Her joy lives on in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lacey Reyenga (Jay), and great-grandchildren Heaven, Tessa, and Ava Tylor Hodges, and great-grandchildren Dustin, Bryson, and Tylor, Sequin Cook, Rachel Howard (David), and great-grandchildren Jazmine and Kolson Howard, Jodi Miller, and Liam Orren.
