Obituary

Brother Joe Nizer Crews. Affectionately known by family and friends as "Poochie" was born February 21, 1944 in El Dorado, Arkansas to J. C. Crew and Ophelia Frazier Scales.

He united with the Free Union A.M.E. church at an early age and later in life united with Plum Street Church of Christ as a faithful servant where he remained until he was called home to be with the Lord.

He was happy being able to go sit on the front row of the church pew, where he sang and praised the Lord. He enjoyed having family around and he would preach, smile and talk for hours at a time.

Joe was united in marriage to the late Peggy Ann Shaw who preceded him in death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; three brothers; Roy Lee Crew, Barry Crew and Bobby Joe Crew, three sisters; Francis R. Stephens, Dorothy Famous and Ora Lee Landers.

Joe was called home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado, Arkansas.

He leaves his cherished memories to 3 daughters; Latesha Carpenter of Boston, Massachusetts; Diane Smith and Beverly Clary both of El Dorado, Arkansas; Two brothers Ellis Williams of Boston Massachusetts; Roy Crew of Dallas, Texas; Sister; Virginia Miller of El Dorado, Arkansas. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild. Favorite nephew; Rev. Dexter Landers of San Francisco, California; Special friend; Steve Terry of El Dorado, Arkansas.  Also, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

"Poochie" will be deeply missed. He had a sweet soul and he had a way of infectiously touching everyone that crossed his path. We love you "Joe", but now you are in the place you so often talked about, in heaven with the Almighty King Jesus.
