John Nevins Davis Jr. 83, of Natchez, Mississippi, died January 6, 2012 in El Dorado, Arkansas.
John was born on August 14, 1928 in El Dorado, Arkansas to John N and Catherine Reynolds Davis.
He was preceded by his father John N Davis, SR, mother Katherine Lavenia Reynolds Davis, and brother William T. Davis. Survivors include sisters Florence Ann Davis Atkinson of Houston, Lora Kay Davis Johnston, and a number of Nephews and Nieces.
John was the oldest of four siblings. Growing up John spent many summers with his younger brother and their Grandparents at their home in Camden Arkansas. He Graduated from high school in El Dorado, and from Louisiana Tech with a business degree. He spent 4 years in the Air Force, mainly at bases in the Dakotas. After his discharge he settled in Shreveport, Louisiana and began his life-long civilian career with Texas Eastern Corporation. When the company relocated it's headquarters to Houston, TX., John moved to Houston. John was not crazy about Houston, but he loved to go to Galveston and stay at the Galvez Hotel to enjoy the beach and ocean. He retired in 1991 and moved to Natchez MS. He opened a bed and breakfast in his new home, High Point, a historic Victorian home on Linton Avenue. John operated the B and B for some twenty years, earning the B and B of the year by the Natchez Chamber of Commerce in the mid 1990's along with several other distinguishing awards. John loved history - especially the Civil War and Napoleon. He was an avid coin and stamp collector and really enjoyed collecting Confederate Money. He had a vast knowledge of Confederate money, including the history, printing and distribution. John was an passionate animal lover looking after stray cats, feeding birds, and even picking up worms from the hot summer sidewalks and placing them back in the cool grass! He was very interested Genealogy, especially as it related to his family and it's famous, and not so famous, members!
John joined First Presbyterian-Natchez in 2004 serving the church in
many roles, most notably as a Curator in the Historic Natchez Photo
exhibit.

Memorial Service is to be on Saturday, January 28th at the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez at 11:00 am.
Cremation services were entrusted to Perry's Funeral Chapels
