Obituary
John Allen Phelps 87 of Strong passed away June 28, 2014 at his home.
John was born June 13, 1927 to John Francis and Edna Munford Phelps. Before retiring, he worked at American Oil, Tosco and Lion Oil. John was a member and Honorary Deacon of New London Baptist Church, Strong Ar. He was past President of New London Water Association, a member of Benjamin Hunting Camp, an avid hunter and fisherman and a Razorback fan. He also served during the Korean Conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; Teresa Ann Douglas, a brother William Fred Phelps, Sisters; Mary Alice Greenlee, Ethel Phelps and Estelle Phelps.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rebecca Lee Bly Phelps, his children; Rebecca Louise Douglas and husband Marshall of San Marcos, TX, John Allen Phelps Jr. and wife Donnie of Strong, AR. and Martha Sue Geter and husband Lee Ray of Strong, AR. sister-n-law Sissy Phelps of Strong, Ar.; brother-n-law Brady Greenlee of El Dorado, Ar.; grandchildren; Jeff Saunders, New Brunfels, TX., Dr. Kim Saunders Young, Wimberley, TX., Angie Phelps Baker, Williamsburg, VA., John David Phelps, Strong, AR. Rhonda Phelps Seat, El Dorado, AR., Philip Geter, Lillie, LA., Kristi Geter Bates, El Dorado, AR., Adrianne Parker DeLancey, West Monroe, LA. and 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at New London Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 2 at the church with Rev. Marshall Douglas officiating with burial to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, Phelps Rd. Strong under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
