Obituary

Larry William Phillips, age 76, passed from this life May 26, 2025. Larry was born in El Dorado, AR on March 18, 1949 to the late J.W. and Verdie Phillips.

Larry Phillips, a lifelong resident of Urbana, passed away surrounded by family and love. Born and raised in Urbana, Larry lived a life defined by hard work, deep roots, and devotion to his family and community.

Larry spent his working years as a dedicated logging contractor with Anthony Forestry. Known for his strong work ethic and steady presence, he took pride in his trade and the relationships he built over the years.

A true outdoors-man, Larry loved to hunt and fish, finding peace and joy in nature. He also took great pride in his yard, meticulously manicuring his grass and mowing every other day without fail. His yard was his sanctuary, and caring for it was both a passion and a point of pride.

More than anything, Larry was a family man. He played an active and loving role in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, keeping them every day and creating memories that will live on for generations. His daily phone calls—two or three a day—with his dear friend Kevin were a cherished part of his routine and a testament to the deep connections he nurtured throughout his life.

Larry's spiritual life was deeply important to him. He was a lifelong member of Urbana First Baptist Church, and in later years, worshiped at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church and then Good Samaritan, which became One Community. His faith was a guiding force and source of comfort.

Among his many joys was an unusual and beloved companion: his pet hog, Miss Piggy. She was a unique part of his life and brought him countless smiles and stories.

Larry Phillips will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his dedication to his work, his humor and humility, and the deep roots he planted in the Urbana community. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his loving wife of fifty four years nine months twelve days Betty Joyce Yarbrough Phillips; one son Scott William Phillips and his wife Jodi; two daughters Stephanie Thurmon and her husband Keith, and Karen Lindsey; six grandchildren Caleb Phillips and Emily, Whitney Brown and her husband Jay, Joshua Phillips and his wife Alyssa, Jacob Thurmon and his wife Rachael, Heaven Leveritt, Angel Leveritt; six great-grandchildren Mia, Ellyson, Brinley, Delylah, Levi, Caroline; one sister Doris Hayes; Kevin and Lisa Legleu and daughter Heather; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
