Leonard Monroe Cates, 55 of El Dorado died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Medical Center of South Arkansas after a brief illness.
He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on September 22, 1954 to Bonnie Ray and Edna L. Eubanks Cates. Leonard served ten years in the United States Navy. He graduated from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. After his discharge, he worked and lived in Pensacola, Florida. Recently, Leonard returned to El Dorado to pursue a teaching career. He was involved in theater and was a cast member of "The Producers" at South Arkansas Arts Center. He was employed by the U. S. Census and Pizza Hut.
Leonard is survived by his parents, his children Madeline, Tyler, Lauren, and Jack Cates of Pace Florida, sisters Toni Barnett (Jim) and Cindy Woolsey (Robert) of El Dorado, brother Billy Cates (Carolyn) of Tuscaloosa, AL, several nieces and nephews, long time friends David Espenscheid, and Ross Robbins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM at Union Baptist Church on July 13, 2010 with Kay Ruddell officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of choice
