Obituary

Melvin Edward Dunn, age 72, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Dunn Sr. and Gloria Faye Dunn; his brother, Leroy Dunn.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Janice Dunn, and his siblings: John Dunn Sr. (Penny), Marvin Dunn, Diane Sartor (Byron), and Patricia Hightower (Buster).

He leaves behind five children: Jennifer Dunn Aguero of El Dorado; Jamie Fontana (Casey) of Natchitoches; Bo Dunn of El Dorado; Sarah Martin (Billy) of Smackover; and Daryl Earnest (Gloria) of El Dorado.

Melvin’s grandchildren were a great source of pride: Ariel Arceneaux (Beau), Dalton Owens (Emily), Dylan Owens, Sara Elizabeth McManis, Jace Parks, Wyatt Fontana, Kaden Martin, River Earnest, Ryder Earnest, Michael Earnest, Cammie Martin, Dustin Martin, and Andrew Cameron. He also had many nieces and nephews, along with numerous great‑grandchildren that brought great joy.

He was a proud veteran who served his country with honor, carrying that same sense of loyalty and dedication throughout his life. After his military service, he devoted many years to the El Dorado School District in maintenance. He found joy outdoors, hunting and fishing, and shared that joy with his family to create many fond memories.

Anyone who knew him knew he could be as stubborn as they come, but that stubbornness was matched only by the size of his heart. He had a quick wit, never missed an opportunity to crack a joke, and could always find a way to make those around him smile. He was the kind of man who would gladly help anyone in need, often giving more of himself than he should because that is who he was.

Above all else, he loved his family. Though we will deeply miss his stories, his humor, his stubborn spirit, and the countless ways he showed his love, they find comfort knowing that the memories he created will live on for generations.
