Mildred Carter Latimer of El Dorado, AR went to be with the Lord on March 7,2016 at the age of 93. She was born in Ruston, LA on August 6, 1922, to Rollin Harrison and Annie Powers Carter. She grew up in Conway, AR where she attended public school and Hendrix College.

She was a Methodist for her entire life and active member of the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado for 62 years. She was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She served on the Board of Stewards and was the administrator of the church kitchen for several years.

Through out her life she had many occupations beginning in New York City working for American Airlines. After her marriage, she and her husband, Roy Latimer, owned and operated Northside Pharmacy, which later became Latimer Walgreens in El Dorado, Arkansas. Mildred held various secretarial positions in the community. She ended her career as executive secretary at Great Lakes Chemical Corporation, where she worked for over twenty years.

Mildred had many interests in life but her love of gardening and playing bridge were her greatest hobbies. She was a member of several local garden clubs as well as the El Dorado Service League. She proudly passed on her passion of gardening to all four of her children. She also loved to hand deliver her roses and boiled custard to sweet friends whenever they were ailing.

Her parents, three sisters, Mary Cornelia McRae, Lena Kirkpatrick and Marjorie Caristianos, and grandson, Todd Cherry preceded her in death.

Those left to lovingly cherish her memory are her four children, Katherine Thompson (Ted) of Hot Springs, AR, Laura Cherry (Jeff), Patricia Latimer and Michael Latimer (Diane) all of El Dorado, AR. Six grandchildren, Stephanie Prock of Little Rock, AR, Ben Thompson (Jessica) & Sarah Meier (Sean) of Kansas City, KS, Carter Latimer, Keisha Sims of El Dorado, and Courtney Ingram of Norphlet, as well as seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family member, Charlie Harrison, survive her.

Her family and friends, who were the recipients of her kindness and sincere gestures of love, will miss her. Whether she was called Meme, Mildred, Aunt Mildred or Mother, she endeared herself to everyone. Her family was always her top priority in life. She touched the lives of three generations with her beautiful smile and twinkling blue eyes. Her children, grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren were her pride and joy.


Interment will be 1pm Saturday March 12 at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held 2pm at First United Methodist Church in El Dorado with Bro. Keith Dodson officiating. A reception immediately following in the fellowship hall. Services under direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.

Pallbearers are Ted Thompson, Ben Thompson, Rollin Caristianos, Carter Latimer, Jeff Cherry and Herman Hill.

The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to her loving caregivers, Robbie Charles, Diane Foreman, jo McDaniel, Betty Robinson, Cassie Watson and Sally York well as Dr. Pokharel and his nurse, Terri. The family extends a special thank you to Herman Hill & Jerry Hill, who helped Mildred with her yard and home.
