Ollie Dee (Sambo) McKnight, 84, of Springdale, Arkansas, and formerly of El Dorado, was
called home at 3:45 am. On Friday, January 16, 2009. The son of Idella and Charley McKnight,
he was born September 28, 1924, in Randolph, Louisisana.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Minnie Lou Pratt McKnight, who went
to be with her Savior just three months earlier. Others include his parents and one brother,
Veldon McKnight.
Survivors include one son, Jackie Ray McKnight and wife Shirley of El Dorado; daughters Jerri
Gail Francis and husband Bill of Little Rock; Jeanne Carol Ford and husband Wayne of
Springdale; sisters Joyce Shaddock of Texas and Margaret taylor MeManemin of Louisiana; one
brother, Donald McKnight of El Dorado; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a
rural mail carrier. After returning home from work each day, Sambo and Minnnie Lou would
spend their time building homes for their families and friends. He always said that when he got
to heaven he wanted to build mansions for God. He was a former member of East Main Baptist
Church.
Visitaion will be tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Services will be at 2:00pm Sunday at
Perry's Funeral Chapels with Rev. J.D. Weido officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rick Francis, Cliff Francis, Jeff Francis, Kenneth McKnight, Brette Pitard,
and Brennan Pitard. Honorary pallbearer will be wallace Archer
