Robert Doyle "R.D." Walker, of Calion, passed away on July 21, 2016 at John R.Williamson LifeTouch Hospice in El Dorado.
He was born June 8,1930 in El Dorado to Robert Isom and Dortha Walker. R.D. was known as an avid hunter and fisherman. His second love was amateur radio operation, licensed as KO5E. Through radio operation he assisted many people across the United States in finding loved ones and made numerous connections and friendships all over the world. R.D graduated from El Dorado High School and attended Southern State College before joining the army, where he served three years. During his time in the service, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He worked for American Oil for 17 years and Calion Lumber Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Calion City Council, the volunteer fire department and a member of the Norphlet School Board, a member of Calion Baptist Church. R.D. was a proud member of the Champagnolle Lodge #768 for over 50 years where he served as Master and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a faithful husband to Mary Lou and devoted father to his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Michael Lynn Walker; two sisters, Lorraine Garrett and Yvonne Tanner.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou Walker; two sons, Ronnie Walker, of Calion, Lynn Walker (Allese) of Calion; two daughters; Marsha Long (Paul) of Norphlet, Suzanne Harrell (Mark) of Mayflower; his sister, Barbara Smith of Monroe, LA, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Calion, under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels. A private family burial will held at Champagnolle cemetery. Pallbearers are Matthew Long, Chris Walker, Clint Walker, Justin Harrell, Rick Evans, Neil Hudson, and Carter Dale King; Honorary Pall Bearers are: Danny Staples, Jimmy Staples, Vergil Staples, LaVon Davis, Marion Clawson, and Ralph Johnson.
