Sam Taunton, 92, of Strong, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born in LaPile on Sept. 12, 1917 the son of James (Jim) and Ophelia Slater Taunton.
He was a pumper for Murphy Oil.
Sam was in the Army during WWII and received the following medals; Good Conduct Medal,
European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal & Bronze Star Attachment (Quadruple)
&Arrowhead; World War II Victory Medal; Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII; Expert Badge & Submachine Gun Bar.
Preceded by his wife, Geraldine White Taunton, a son Jerry Taunton, three brothers, Phares Taunton, Q. T. Taunton, Pete Taunton.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Norsworthy of Strong, Marianne Ward (Robbie) of Waco, Texas,a daughter-n-law Joan Taunton of Warren, a sister Owana Smith of Strong, grandchildren Debbie Rawls (Ricky), Glenda Webb (Tony), Michael Norsworthy (Robin), Kellye Peters (Brian), Dustin (Natalie), ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8PM on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Perry's Funeral Chapels in Strong.
Funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at LaPile Baptist Church with Brothers Tommy Robertson and Bob Inmon officiating. Burial will follow at Old LaPile Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels of Strong.
