Susie Corneal Peace Johnston died peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Hudson Nursing Home in El Dorado, Arkansas at the age of 87. She was born on August 28, 1931 in the Mt. Union Community south of El Dorado to Charlie and Susie Greenlee Peace. Corneal graduated from Junction City High School and attended Green's School of Business. She was a homemaker who took her role as a neighborhood caretaker very seriously, and she always had room for one more at her dinner table. Corneal was a celebrated cook, and once had a banana pudding sell for $60.00 at a church bake sale. She was a generous individual who loved helping people in need and who especially enjoyed having friends and family in her home for a meal. She was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Union Baptist Church and the Faircrest Golden Ages Group.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, William Lee Johnston; brothers, Lavell (Falba) Peace of El Dorado and Edmon Peace of Longview, Washington.
Corneal is survived by her nephews and nieces, Jim (Linda) Peace, Chuck (Vicki) Peace, Becky (Roger) Craighead of Bayou Vista, Texas, and Beverly Peace; great nephews and nieces, Josh (Nga) Peace of London, England, Wade (Jo Beth) Peace of Maumelle, Nickolas (Allison) Craighead of Spring, Texas, Bailey Craighead of Fort Worth, Texas, and Andrea Peace of Little Rock; and great-great nephews Wyatt Peace of Maumelle and Canaan Craighead of Spring, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Mt. Union Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Mt. Union Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Corneal's life.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Corneal's honor be made to Mt. Union Baptist Church, Life Touch Hospice, or Smyrna Cemetery Fund.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Hudson Nursing Home for their care and dedication, and the church family and friends who were so special to Corneal and Lee.
