IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wonder
Slater
January 19, 1942 – July 2, 2025
Wonder Ann Slater, age 83, passed from this life July 2, 2025. Wonder was born January 19, 1942 in Cotton Valley, LA.
Wonder Slater, a woman of creativity, resilience, and deep love for her family, passed away leaving behind a life beautifully stitched together by laughter, love, and cherished memories.
Wonder found her greatest joy in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she shared countless hours of games, stories, and life lessons. Whether gathered around the table playing cards, dominos, or piecing together puzzles, her home was always filled with fun and warmth.
In the 1990s, Wonder shared her passion for all things handmade through The Craft & Hobby Barn—a place where her love for quilting, crocheting, and crafting came to life and inspired others. Her hands were always busy, and her heart was always open.
A true outdoorswoman at heart, she enjoyed gardening, watching birds from the porch, and casting a line whenever she could go fishing—so much so that she once patched holes in the boat with bubble gum just to make sure the adventure could continue. She had a determined spirit and a sense of humor that made every moment memorable.
Wonder believed in raising kids with love and a little bit of discipline—the kind that involved picking your own switch. But behind that was a heart full of care, generosity, and understanding. She was also a lifelong collector of things big and small—each item holding a story, a memory, or a smile.
Her life was full of color, texture, and purpose—just like her quilts. Wonder Slater wove love into everything she did, and her legacy lives on in the hands and hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father Tony Bill New; her loving husband of twenty-eight years Cecil Marion Slater; partner Lorenzo Cortez; one sister Barbara New; two brothers Tony New and Donny New; and granddaughter-in-law Stacy Elaine Slater.
Those left to cherish her memory include: three daughters Teresa Healey (Patrick), Barbara Bates, Angela Moses (Flint); one son Cecil Slater, Jr (LaNette); nine grandchildren Shawn Bates, David Slater, Elizabeth Healey, Brandi White, Jake Sweet, Patrick Healey, Jr, Stacy Schimberg, Johnathon Bates, Joey Slater; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister B J Clarke (John); as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2025, at Perry's Funeral Chapel in El Dorado, AR, Pastor J D Weido officiating, interment following at Arlington Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the funeral home.
